MLCC Government Affairs – Business Advocacy

By establishing dialogue among business owners and community leaders, Chambers have a tremendous impact on the growth and connectivity of a region.  For more than 85 years, The Main Line Chamber of Commerce has served the 9 municipalities that make up the Main Line region, a premier affluencial business region in the United States.  As a regional player, The Main Line Chamber of Commerce serves small and mid size businesses, corporations, non profit, and secondary schools to universities. The Chamber is a collaboration of business people coming to together to create one voice and diverse opportunities to grow local industries and the regional economy.

A collective voice

The Main Line Chamber of Commerce provides a variety of benefits to its membership such as networking, cost savings, business resources and legislative advocacy. What is the value of legislative advocacy and why does the Chamber get involved in ‘politics’?  An active legislative advocacy program creates a collective VOICE for the business membership.

Advocacy is for all

Advocacy is more than just having a government affairs program.  The Main Line Chamber establishes agendas and actively educates its members and the community on the impact that government can have on a community.  The Main Line Chamber has established a very effective non-partisan government affairs committee that focuses on business issues in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C.  The committee is tasked with tracking legislation, informing membership of potential changes or creation of new laws, establishing dialogue with regional legislators and recommending the endorsements of pro-business candidates in an election year. The Main Line Chamber is agenda driven.

Agenda

Each year the Main Line Chamber will identify a priority list of issues that will be tracked.  The priority is established through dialogue with regional legislators, assembled by the government affairs committee, and adopted by the board of directors. Click here for the 2008 priorities.

Position papers

As issues on the agenda materialize before the legislators in committee, in conference or on the legislative floor, the government affairs committee will develop position papers to be adopted by the board of directors. The following are active papers that are available to review:
